I was a teacher for many years and am now involved in writing a book. I'm a very responsible, calm person who has owned properties and understands the value of caring for a home. I will treat your home with the utmost care and respect and look after any pets extremely well. As a homeowner and animal lover, I understand the importance of having the right person looking after your home and animals. Excellent references can be supplied and some are below. I love animals and am used to looking after dogs, cats and horses. As a keen gardener, I am able to maintain exterior areas as well as keep the interior of the house looking immaculate. I worked as a gardener in England a few years ago and trained with a professional who had worked at Kew Gardens. I spent a year looking after an historic 19th century rectory in the city of Bath for the Church of England and can supply outstanding references. I have been a director and chairman of a management company, looking after a historic stable block of homes, so am very used to dealing with problems and keeping a property in excellent order. I taught for a year in new York State as part of a US/UK Government exchange programme. Some of my previous house-sits have been for a month in Vancouver, looking after a lovely house and two wonderful tabby cats. Before that I took care of a house, a highly intelligent spaniel, lovely cat and five chickens for a family in Florida. More recently I have taken care of numbers of cats and dogs, several of the cats needed medication which was no problem. Animals trust me and my quiet nature gives them confidence, I feel. I am a non smoker and am in excellent health. Living almost exclusively on salads, your kitchen will not be used very much! No small task! Barbara arrived a day early and stayed as our guest in order to become as familiarized as possible with the many details involved with caring for our home. From the beginning we knew we had made the right choice; not only was she a very polite and pleasant houseguest, but a very conscientious student of all my instructions. Indeed Barbara capably and diligently carried out all the tasks just as I had asked: she faithfully brought Henry to the beach every other day, walked him at appropriate times according to neighbors (who also said later how delightful she was to have around), let the cat in and out, safely guarded the chickens against predators, and generally kept everyone fed, healthy, and happy. She reliably and promptly responded to my emails and often sent us photos of Henry, and gave me a sense comfort so that I could enjoy my trip with no anxieties whatsoever. When we arrived home from our two-week-plus trip, I was not surprised to find our house beautifully neat, clean and tidy. Our house hold has always had animals. Dogs with puppies and cats with kittens. Then, a beloved French lop rabbit and gerbils and pet mice. Our animals have always responded so well to Barbara and she has been wonderful with them. Most recently, Mr. Tom, a timid ferril rescue cat and Mirabella, a Shi-Tzu Now, Thomas makes very few appearances for anyone but my husband and me. He is skittish and fears things we do not see. Yet, last year, when Barbara was staying with us, he came out and allowed Barbara to pet him and then he followed her, rubbing up against her legs. He then proceeded to stay in her bedroom and climb up on the bed with her!!! If only you could know Mr. Tom, you would know there is no greater recommendation for her magic with animals. What we bring to the assignment / relevant experience As a homeowner of a property in Cyprus, I am used to dealing with home maintenance and keeping everything looking clean and tidy. We had a Labrador for many years, also a Welsh Corgi (like the Queen), and a mixed breed who was full of character. We have had several cats, plus rabbits and birds.
