House Sitter in Powell River, British Columbia

We are a retired married couple, both 69 years young, who have been enjoying travelling and exploring Canada while spending time caring for others' homes and pets. We anticipate and look forward to ongoing experiences and exploring this exciting world around us. Location is not an issue. We have the greatest respect for others' property, and cleanliness of our environment is essential to our peace of mind. Lorraine is retired from a 40 year career as a psychiatric nurse...last years of employment were in rural Yukon. James spent many years in business management but later moved north to work at setting up and managing geology camps and doing wilderness guiding. You can rest assured that your home and pets will be well cared for throughout your absence. Currently we have no pets of our own, but have enjoyed our own in the past and have loved and cared for those of others including dogs, cats, horses, cows, goats, etc. We are comfortable dealing with minor injuries to horses, dogs, cats....but ready to call for vet advice when a problem is more major. We spent fall & winter of 2016/17 on a ranch "off grid" in Cariboo, with required attention to solar system & keeping wood fires burning night & day during the coldest part of the year. We were also responsible for 13 horses. Summer of 2017 was spent in Owen Sound, a farming area of Ontario, where we were responsible for yard work and household pets. We drove to Austin Texas in 2018 to do a 2 month Housesit & caring for a veterinarian’s many dogs. The summer of 2019 took us across Canada to a farm sit in Nova Scotia, before returning to BC’s Okanagan Falls where we took care of 3 horses on a small acreage. Between these more extensive travel sits, we have done many house & pet sits on Vancouver Island lasting 1 week to 5 months. Previous life & employment experiences have groomed us to be capable of dealing with any number of situations and repairs which may arise. We own a home in Powell River, B. C., which is currently occupied by Lorraine's daughter and her family. We use this as our home base and gives us the opportunity to continue the lifestyle we have been enjoying over past few years.
