House Sitter in College Park, Maryland

My name is Angela and I am student at the University of Maryland, College Park (Go Terps!) I am originally from Chicago, IL but have been in the DMV area for the last 4 years. I come from a large family and I am one of the oldest cousins, which means I was given much responsibility on keeping a house clean, cooking, and taking care of my younger siblings and cousins. I am naturally a neat freak. I tend to walk into my friends' rooms or even department stores and fix things like picking up articles of clothing off the floor to neaten the environment. More about me: I have always been drawn to supporting and empowering others. In high school, I started a women’s empowerment club and initiated many campaigns such as a Self-Love campaign where we covered the mirrors in the girl’s bathrooms with inspirational messages. Throughout high school and in some of my college summers, I worked in Chicago with Youth Empowering Strategies, a youth advocacy summer program, as a Health Leader. Here, I facilitated and lead lessons on health, nutrition, reproductive health, violence, and fitness to underprivileged high school students. To add, for three years, I worked as the Community Organizing Student Intern at the Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy (MICA) office at the University of Maryland. At MICA, I took the initiative to plan, organize, and coordinate my own programs which promoted and advocated different cultures and identities. Along with my passion of working with youth, I have a strong passion for salsa dancing, music, and culture. I have been dancing since the age of four and have been on various teams in the city of Chicago. Two years after moving to Maryland to attend school, I co-founded the Maryland Latin Dance Team which I currently direct and choreograph for. In this team, I am able to share my skills and love for salsa dancing with my peers, as well as apply my leadership skills that I have learned from my various opportunities. After I graduate, I plan to continue my growth as a dancer, to travel the world, and to gain more experience as a community organizer, and to build my network to have a successful company in the future.
