House Sitter in Mansfield

In the dog/cat world, I'm an experienced owner, trainer, foster mom. I've volunteered with rescue groups for 35 years and have cared for 100 dogs/cats just in the past 5 years, from puppies to seniors, teacups to tanks. I help run adoption events at Petco/Petsmart. I can administer medications, including injections. I don't travel with my two rescue dogs (German Shorthaired Pointer and LabX), but I use the same house/dog sitter each time, and my girls love her. I've been on both sides. I know what it's like to have someone taking care of my home and pets. I'm only half kidding when I say that dog/cat addiction is worse than sugar. I'm the annoying road trip buddy who programs the GPS for dog parks and animal shelters. Doesn't everybody travel with a flea comb and clicker? Serial pet nuzzler I was raised by my adopted grandmother, the "cat lady" of our neighborhood. I was in a pre-vet science program, but math was my enemy, so I ended up being the "dog lady," and I'm very okay with that! There are no raised voices when I'm boarding, sitting, or training. It's a love fest. Animals give me peace, and it's mutual. They are LOVED as my own, and they relax in my care. The first day/night, I get them used to my presence and my voice. This usually means cozying up to them as they become comfortable with me and softly reading to them. Semi-retired, boring book editor I work at home (or on the road). I run an online business that matches writers with editors and graduate students with dissertation coaches. Why I house/pet sit ... Knowing your furkids are with someone who cares can make a huge difference between a trip that is stressful and one thats relaxing. Years ago, I was the stressed-out mess who left my furkids in boarding when I went out of town, and I kept my trips short because of the 24/7 guilt. Now .... I've been blessed with a wonderful house/pet sitter. The guilt is diminished, and I come home to pets that don't hold any grudge towards me :) It's a win-win. Paying it forward simply feels good, plus traveling is a great opportunity to meet my contractors, attend writers conferences, make friends, and see different parts of the country. Since 2012 I have spent summers in Washington (June-September), from Seattle to Anacortes/Port Townsend. Olympic Peninsula in 2013. Water. Mountains. Western Washington (esp. Lake Washington) is my peaceful place, where I go to decompress. I don't drink or smoke, and have passed background checks. What Lynda would like to know about your dog I would like to know their habits, special treats, where they like to sleep, which words you use for training, how many backyard potty breaks (etc.). I can also help reinforce your training. Are your dogs crate trained? Do they have separation anxiety? Is your dog or cat submissive or confident/alpha? Do your cats RESPOND to their names when called? :) I don't have breed preferences but I believe that no one should care for (or own) an animal that can't be safely managed. I've cared for 100-lb lower energy dogs without any issues, and one of my regulars is a 80-lb lab who sticks his face into mine to demand kisses. That's totally appropriate :) If your dog is large, muscular, and a bit on the wild-n-crazy side, we would not be a match.
