I graduated from medical school, took my boards, started residency, but partway through residency, I decided I am more interested in research than clinical care (I also have an MPH in Epidemiology and many years of clinical and epidemiological research. Last month I was laid off from my research position due to federal funding cuts in research moneys. Therefore I am currently available 24/7 seven days a week. Although I am very happy with my chosen career path and do not miss being on call (sleeping in my own bed every night is great!!!), it does come with the sacrifice of a far lower paycheck, and because of my $300,000 student loan debt, I now have the need to supplement my full time job with some part time work,
