House Sitter in Denver, Colorado

I'm an
Individual
I offer kind and mindful care for your treasured pets and home. I believe that an individual’s beloved pets and home are probably their most precious possessions. I consider it a great responsibility to be given the care of these treasures. As a longtime practitioner of Buddhist meditation and conduct, I try to practice mindfulness, kindness and thoughtfulness in caring for pets and homes alike, and exert myself to return them to their owners in excellent health, in a happy state, and in good condition. I hold an MA in Buddhist Studies, and I am a college philosophy instructor and Buddhist meditation instructor, originally from Dublin, Ireland, who has lived in Colorado for most of the last 25 years. After spending the last decade teaching over a thousand classes and 50 individual courses at a university in Denver, Colorado, I recently set aside my classroom instruction work in order to spend a year on extended meditation retreat. Since then, while working on a book, I have been doing in-home pet care. I am good with both cats and dogs, get on very well with them, and enjoy their company. They, in turn, seem to thrive and flourish under my care. This may be, in part because my initial professional training (prior to Philosophy) was in Zoology – the study of animals – with a BA in Natural Sciences from Trinity College Dublin. Nonetheless, much like Dr. Doolittle, most of what I know about taking care of pets comes what the animals themselves have taught me. I have taken care of pets that are young and lively, and those that are old and infirm, and I am meticulous when it comes to giving the pets their medications. In taking care of cats, because they are so fastidious about personal cleanliness, I prefer to change their litters every day, and because in some areas they are vulnerable to nighttime predators, I prefer, unless otherwise instructed by their owners, to keep them in the house at night. I have a lot of recent experience working as a house sitter. Here is why: after I recently gave up my classroom instruction work and my apartment in Denver, I entered a long-term meditation retreat in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. That was last fall (2014); when I came out of retreat earlier this year (2015), I took up an intermediate livelihood – taking care of a variety of houses and pets. Consequently, I can offer multiple references from homeowners who can report on excellent work I have done for them in taking good care of their treasured homes and possessions. I can add one more note that homeowners often appreciate knowing about – that I lead a very low-key existence. Most of my time is divided between study, meditation, yoga, swimming, cooking and enjoying long walks. I don’t smoke, don’t drink and don’t indulge in . (Although I have no objection to others enjoying these presumably pleasant distractions, they’re just not my cup of tea personally). All of this is probably one more contributing factor as to why homeowners and pet owners value me to look after their most precious possessions for them. I continue to reside principally in Denver, Colorado, but frequently do house sits out of State as well. I am working on a book, The Human Journey.
