About Mel & Kelly Melody (Mel) is a Seattle native and travels throughout the year, particularly to Portland, greater Los Angeles area and over seas. I am a GIS Analyst/Cartographer for an environmental consulting firm and enjoy all things maps and geography. Outside of my career I am an outdoor enthusiast, passionate about environmental restoration and conservation, a world traveler, trail runner, book reader, budding photographer, Spanish language learner, love to cook and bake, garden, and of course, an animal lover. I just turned 40 and am a non-drinker, non-smoker (of any kind), vegetarian, and very conscientious person that will treat your home and fur loves as my own. I lost my beloved cat of 10 years very suddenly a few years ago and haven't yet adopted again, but I very much enjoy the company of other people's pets. Kelly is from San Francisco originally, currently living in Seattle, WA. He has lived for extensive periods of time in Ashland and Portland Oregon, Japan, Mexico, and France, and has traveled to many other corners near and far. As a result, he speaks Spanish, French, and a little Japanese. He is 41 and has spent many years as a contractor for catering and delivery services, affording him flexibility to travel. He is also a non-smoker (of any kind), non-drinker who loves animals, gardening, hiking, reading, and cooking. Because of his love of travel, he also has chosen not to adopt again at this point in his life, but loves caring for others' little creatures. Why we want to house sit Inspired by our love of geography and adventure, we have both discovered looking after the homes of others offers us a way to meet local people in our own city as well as in other parts of the country and the world. We enjoy getting to know different communities as locals rather than tourists, spending our free time in nearby parks, cafes, and libraries, and taking walks or runs around the neighborhood. In addition to pet companionship, this provides us a more personal and connected way for us to travel. We also love that it offers peace of mind for those we sit for who are away on their own adventures. We ourselves have always enjoyed the feeling of coming home after a trip to a clean home with happy pets, and like the idea of being able to provide that for other people. Our experience We have sat for many friends and family members in apartments and houses large and small. We have cared for horses, cats, dogs, birds, farm animals, and fish and other small creatures, as well as homes and gardens with or without pets. We have experience caring for elderly pets and animals with special care needs. We are both very active people and love taking dogs out for walks or runs, but are also quite content with a cat on the lap and book in hand. We definitely enjoy keeping animals company and engaged while sitting.
