My boyfriend is moving from North Carolina to Mammoth Lakes, CA (where I live). We will be traveling with his car/dog/belongings across the country during the week between Christmas and New Year's, so I'm looking for a sitter to take care of plants (a bit of an extensive collection, but nothing too hard to care for), and potentially my 5-year-old black lab. The townhouse is right at the base of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, so you can access two of the ski lodges via bus/gondola right from the house. I'm flexible on dates, but would like for someone to be at the house for the bulk of my trip. I will be using my car to drive to the airport, so unfortunately I don't have car access for you. That said, if you rent a car or drive your own, I have two parking passes for the townhouse complex that you would be welcome to use. If you aren't planning on having a car, Mammoth Yosemite Airport is only 12 minutes away from town, so you could feasibly fly to Mammoth Lakes, take a cab to the townhouse and then get around on the free shuttle system while you are here. The free shuttle runs all day and transports guest to The Village, the ski mountain, the grocery store, to Old Mammoth (lots of restaurants here). My townhouse is also walking distance from a popular brewery and The Village, so a car isn't necessary to have fun during your stay. Here's what I'm looking for in terms of help while I'm away: 1.) Watering, misting and moving plants to sunny locations (I'll leave directions, and the work is likely 10-20 minutes per day.) 2.) Potentially light snow shoveling if it does snow during your stay. The building has an onsite maintenance manager, who manages snow removal on the communal driveway and parking spaces, so you would only be responsible for the entrance way and porch/patio. 3.) Managing the heat/pellet stove temperatures. The house is heated by a pellet stove attached to a thermostat, so it's pretty easy to manage, but a 10-day stay would likely require 2 refills of pellets (in a container on the porch). 4.) I've never left my dog with a house sitter before, so I'm a bit nervous and still on the fence as to whether I would leave him since my parents may be available to watch him. But he is very mellow black lab, so depending on the house sitter and what they are comfortable with, I may include my pet in the sitting responsibilities as well. Care would include feeding twice a day and bringing him out into the yard as needed. Although if you fancy renting snowshoes to go on a winter hike, he would love to join.
